The activities in this chapter provide an introduction to the NGSS.
Activity 1 allows educators to explore the progressions of NGSS to begin understanding the structure of NGSS.
Activities 2, 3, and 4 represent three different ways to introduce the terminology and structure of the standards to educators.
In Activity 2, educators participate in a lecture and then discuss the development and structure of NGSS to begin developing a working knowledge ofNGSS. In Activity 3, educators use inquiry to develop their working definitions of NGSS vocabulary and the structure of NGSS. In Activity 4, educators examine six conceptual shifts in NGSS that demonstrates how NGSS is different from previous standards documents. I thought this chapter did a great job of showing teachers how to familiarize themselves with the NGSS. I thought having the teachers work through steps that are broken down into four different activities that will help the teachers to see the changes between the standards and how they are related to each other. This would be a great resource for teachers who are starting out new with these standards and are wanting to gain more knowledge about the standards.

It breaks it down into four activities that start with just familiarizing yourself with the standards to understanding the vocabulary and structure and discusses the conceptual shifts in the standards. This resource would be a fun in-service activity for schools that are just introducing NGSS or for new teachers who are not yet familiar with these standards.
