Pre-service Teachers working on the NSTA Learning CenterAre you a professor working with science teacher candidates?  If so, join us for this web seminar on Tuesday, April 16, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm Eastern time.

In this web seminar, authors of the article Increasing Science Teacher Candidates’ Ability to Become Lifelong Learners Through a Professional Online Learning Community will share their experience and answer questions about how they use the NSTA Learning Center in their university classroom.   The article was published in the Association for Science Teacher Education’s practitioner’s journal Innovations in Science Teacher Education in January 2019 and its abstract is below.

Abstract: This article describes the use of an online professional learning community within the context of K-8 science education methods courses. The article describes the unique usage of the learning community with preservice teachers at different certification levels within the context of five distinct universities. While each approach is different there exist commonalities of usage. Specifically, the site is used to develop mastery of science content, exposure to pedagogical content knowledge, and classroom activities that focus on authentic science practices. Each case provides specific details of how the preservice teachers were immersed into a learning community that can serve them throughout their teaching career.

This web seminar is designed for professors who teach science pre-service teachers. All participants will receive a certificate of participation and 100 Learning Center activity points for attending and completing the post-program evaluation. An archive and presentation slides will be available at the end of the program.

Professors can learn more about how to use the NSTA Learning Center with teacher candidates at:
